Week 4
Posters
That was one hack of an assignment. It was a rather great experiance working with 2 people I've yet to work with for this assignment, and furthermore a lot more have been learnt in thsi process. It was rather interesting to see how our sterngths compliment each other and even though there was some last minute stuff, but yah... it turned out all well. Great job team.
The only think that made us all pissed off was in fact the printer... what the hell was wrong with the colour printer? I can't believe it, I was trying to print the posters are 12midnight monday after the final touches were done and I just ccan't seem to be able to relise for printing... something has to be looked into this...I'm sure ITS can do a lot better.
All is not lost though, during this time of being unable to print anything or waiting, I found 2 very rough and unrefined pencil sketches of our designs, which I've just sketched randomly while travelling on the train. So I thought why not refind them and used them for the presentation as well...(guess not all rough sketches should not be treated as juke after all). I managed to refine both sketches and while doing it I tried to show how much the development process should be, showing specific part of the design, putting ideas into, trying to explain as much of the idea we were thinking of during meets in pictures. Turned out great indeed.
Projects selected
There were a lot of projects to be selected from in fact 22, which I'm surprised to see, and I couldn't quit make up my mind about it, some seem too good to be true some seemed a lot eaiers than others, and some will...still seems impossible to do.
After visiting the room on 3 different days and changing my ideas everytime I go in there, I've fianlly decided on 17(cambot), 6(hitme) and 12(Exhibit room =) ). I intially thought of doing the piano stairs and beat machine, but there seem to be at least 10 students who want to do those projects, and they seem rather easy, build a sensor pad, hack apart a keyboard, link it up to the PC/Mac and done.
Seriously I think students should not be finding the easy way out this time, cause in the industry we don't always get to choose our projects and sometimes we get projects that make us feel like quiting our jobs(speaking from experiance). If we always choose the assignments we know, what is there in that? Furthermore this is studio...its about the whole process, not just the end product. Its about development, its about growth, its about research(learnt this the hard way during studio 5), its about the element that makes the design work.
Thus my decision to choose something which I do not know much of, but fits into my strengths(technical stuff and coding)this leaves me some room for research and also more to discover during development.
Hmm, not how to I make something follow me around, and take picutre.....looks like I'll be asking my tutors a lot of questions..... ; )
